Which networks does it use in Japan?
NTT docomo, Rakuten Mobile, KDDI/au and SoftBank on 500 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB and 3 GB; KDDI/au and SoftBank on 5 GB and 10 GB. Your phone picks the strongest signal on its own.
What happens when I use my full-speed data for the day?
You stay online. The speed drops to the rate in the table until your day resets, then full speed is back. Nothing is cut and nothing extra is charged.
Can I share data with a hotspot?
Yes. Hotspot is included on every plan. Whatever you share comes out of the same daily allowance, and there is no separate hotspot cap.
Do I get a Japan phone number?
No. Surfalo is data only. Your own number stays on your phone, and WhatsApp, FaceTime and your other chat apps work over the data.
When should I install it?
Before you fly, on Wi-Fi. It only starts counting days when it first connects in Japan.
Will Japan-only apps work?
Like most travel eSIMs, your traffic exits through a regional hub (Hong Kong or Singapore). Maps, chats and social apps work as usual; a few local streaming apps may see you as abroad.
